Whenever the kids try to get my attention while I have a mouthful of food, I hold up one finger in the classic "One moment, please" position. And I will continue to do that until I'm done chewing despite their repeated attempts to get me to speak. One of the rules is we don't speak with food in our mouths.

This morning, I got a taste of my own medicine. Nathan asked me a question then promptly stuffed a spoonful of cereal in his mouth. I responded and he, in a most daddy-like move, held up his one finger until he was done chewing.
